Tumbleweed's MailGate Appliance provides comprehensive email security that is powerful, accurate, and easy to manage.  MailGate provides effective defense against network attacks, spam, and virus outbreaks, as well as content filtering and policy controls to enforce regulatory compliance and corporate policies.  The MailGate Appliance can scale to fit any environment, with high-performance appliances processing over one million messages per hour.  Built on a secure Linux platform, it installs in minutes, with intuitive administrative controls and centralized management for multi-appliance deployments.

Flexible, modular solution

The MailGate Appliance is flexible and modular, allowing you to deploy the specific features you need, then easily adding new modules as your security needs expand.  MailGate's modular capabilities include:

• Edge Defense:  can reduce your raw email load over 90%, by blocking 'Dark Traffic' including directory harvest attacks (DHA), email denial of service (DoS) attacks, malformed SMTP packets, non-existing recipient addresses, and other invalid messages.  The Edge module verifies recipients at the perimeter, allows you to create IP-based block or allow lists, and identifies suspicious senders - applying intelligent traffic shaping, and message throttling for invalid messages.
• Antispam:  multiple antispam techniques block more than 99% of inbound spam with virtually no false positives (based on multiple independent tests performed by VeriTest and West Coast Labs).  Techniques include content analysis, rule-based heuristics, and outbreak detection that blocks large-scale attacks from unknown 'zombie' machines.  Tumbleweed's Message Protection Lab, uses artificial intelligence and human review to evaluate over 400 million messages per day providing automatic hourly updates to MailGate appliances.
• Antivirus:  gateway protection from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, and other malicious code using industry-leading McAfee or Kaspersky AV engines.  MailGate lets you develop custom virus scanning policies and block unauthorized types of file attachments or executable code.
• Zero-hour Virus Outbreak Protection:  quarantines messages and attachments with suspected new viruses during the critical initial hours of a virus attack.  Administrators can specify the length of time for quarantines until AV vendors provide updated virus profiles.
• Content filtering:  MailGate provides the industry's most in-depth content filtering, scanning messages and over 300 types of attachments for keywords, regulated information, intellectual property, or other sensitive data.
• Policy Manager:  a powerful and easy-to-use system for building and managing corporate email policies.  MailGate's intuitive interface lets you easily build rules based on senders, recipients, content, attachments, headers, and file size, and take actions to quarantine, return, drop, annotate, add disclaimers, modify headers, or tag messages.
• Encryption:  the MailGate Appliance includes automatic gateway-to-gateway encryption using the TLS protocol, and can route messages to MailGate Secure Messenger providing the industry's widest range of encryption methods and secure mail delivery options.

The MailGate Appliance is a high-performance, hardened Linux platform available in multiple form factors.  The appliances are designed for reliability, with optional redundant disk drives and power supplies.  Simplified installation is provided with integrated LCD controls on the front panel which allows appliances to be quickly configured with network settings without the hassle of plugging in external cables or monitors.

Centralized management

MailGate allows you to centrally manage and monitor appliances distributed in multiple locations from a single console.  This greatly reduces administrative costs, providing redundancy, high availability, and scalability for large an distributed organizations.
