WildPackets
OmniPeek Professional
AiroPeek and EtherPeek are now OmniPeek
Serving a dual role as both a portable network analysis
solution and as a software console for OmniEngines, OmniPeek
Professional offers an intuitive, easy-to-use graphical
interface that engineers can use to rapidly analyze and
troubleshoot enterprise networks. OmniPeek Professional
provides centralized expert analysis for all networks under
management. Using OmniPeek’s intuitive user interface and
“top-down” approach to visualizing network conditions,
network engineers can quickly analyze faults from multiple
network segments, drill down through multiple layers of
analysis, and pinpoint problems that need correction
Using OmniPeek Professional, network engineers can:
-
Analyze local
traffic from any 10/100 or wireless network segment,
including 802.11n segments, as well as two simultaneous
connections to network segments configured with
OmniEngine
-
Analyze and
troubleshoot networks from all perspectives – packets,
nodes, protocols, conversations and applications, using
one single product
-
Monitor
networks with high-level network views, or “Dashboards,”
and instantly drill down to see which traffic
characteristics are affecting network performance
-
Capture and
analyze data from multiple local network adapters,
multiple distributed OmniEngines, or any combination of
local and remote data
-
Leverage your
existing wireless network infrastructure by turning
managed access points from Cisco or Aruba, and IDS/IPS
wireless sensors from AirTight Networks, into packet
capture devices and collect data from multiple channels
simultaneously
-
Add reports of
wireless interference sources into OmniPeek
Professional’s Summary Statistics, and set triggers on
reported interference to troubleshoot interference
problems as they occur
-
Rely on
real-time Expert analysis to do the heavy-lifting,
performing aggregated analysis of all network traffic
and reporting Expert events as they occur
-
Receive alerts
when specific Expert events occur, or when configured
Network Policies are violated
-
Change filters
on the fly without having to stop and restart packet
captures
-
View
packet-stream based analytics by conversation pair,
instantly locating network events
Features & Benefits
Real-time Application Performance
Analysis
OmniPeek is able to aggregate
these conversations by application and rate user
satisfaction. Combining user satisfaction with WildPackets’
accurate response time analysis provides an unrivaled new
level of application analysis. A new Apdex dashboard
provides a high-level view of the quality of service that
applications are delivering to end users. Apdex, an
industry standard developed by the Apdex Alliance (www.apdex.org),
provides a single metric that represents the level of
satisfaction users are experiencing with applications. When
the dashboard reports a low score, engineers can use OmniPeek to drill down for Expert analysis,
graphical reports, and the packets themselves to uncover the
root cause of the problem.
The Application view allows you to link end-user
satisfaction with the performance of a network application
through Apdex.

Top-Down View
OmniPeek provides a
high-level view of network traffic using its comprehensive
Dashboard view. Dashboards display important data that every
network engineer needs to know about the network without
spending lots of time analyzing the captured data.
With OmniPeek, you can also drill down and see which nodes
your top talkers are talking to. Click again and see what
protocols and sub protocols are in use. IT staff of all
levels of technical ability, or even executives can view
this information instantly, anywhere on the network.

Wireless Analysis
OmniPeek provides in-depth
analysis of Wireless Traffic using its comprehensive
Wireless-specific expert diagnoses and decodes, high-level
wireless-specific dashboard view, signal strength analysis,
etc. In addition to 802.11a/b/g support, OmniPeek now
support 802.11n capture and analysis.
The Network Policy Violation Detection allows the user to
create, edit, save and reload named descriptions of a
particular network-its participants and their expected
behavior-for the Expert to use in detecting Network Policy
violation events.

Visual Expert
The Visual Expert
answers the question “Who’s talking to who?” by providing
comprehensive visual data about network and application
traffic, along with Expert diagnoses of common and
not-so-common network problems. The Visual Expert makes it
easier to understand what’s happening on the network and how
to remedy problems by providing a “top-down” view of network
activity.
Visual Expert includes Packet Visualizer, payload
reconstruction, a wide range of conversation-oriented
graphs, optimization tuning by playing “What If” with key
network parameters, packet by packet comparison between
multiple saved capture files – very useful in comparing the
traffic from the wireless and wired side of an access point,
and a detailed summary panel.

Real-Time Expert Analysis
OmniPeek displays
Expert System diagnoses by conversation pair, so you can
instantly identify where problems are occurring on the
network. Other companies’ analyzers hide this information,
listing their alarms by OSI layer.
The Expert EventFinder in OmniPeek provides descriptions and
possible causes and remedies for each of the problem
conditions the Expert identifies.
The Network Policy Violation Detection allows the user to
create, edit, save and reload named descriptions of a
particular network-its participants and their expected
behavior-for the Expert to use in detecting Network Policy
violation events.

Expert Mapping
The OmniPeek Expert
Peer Map shows all communicating nodes within your network
and is drawn as a vertically-oriented ellipse, able to grow
to the size necessary. Reading the Peer Map is easy; the
thicker the line between nodes, the greater the traffic; the
bigger the dot, the more traffic through that node. The
number of nodes displayed can also be limited to the busiest
and/or active nodes, or to any OmniPeek filters that may be
in use.

On-the-Fly Filters
You shouldn’t have to stop your analysis to change
what you’re looking at it. OmniPeek enables you to create
filters and apply them immediately. WildPackets’ “select
related” feature selects the packets relevant to a
particular node, protocol, conversation, or expert
diagnosis, with a simple right click of the mouse. Features
like this significantly reduce time needed to find and fix
problems. Similar operations often take a dozen or more
steps in other analyzers.

Global Real-Time Troubleshooting
OmniPeek extends real-time
troubleshooting to network segments around the world,
delivering expert network analysis, detailed node, protocol,
and network summary statistics, and even packet decoding, on
multiple segments, by multiple users, in real time. From one
console, a network engineer can cost-effectively
troubleshoot locally or connect to OmniEngine Expert
analysis or other applications running on OmniEngines down
the hall, across the country, or across the planet.
Network Coverage
With Ethernet and Wireless
capabilities, you can now effectively monitor and
troubleshoot services running on your entire network.
Using the same solution for troubleshooting wired and
wireless networks reduces the total cost of ownership,
including training expenses.
